Contemporary Lux

This residence in Chrysoupoli, Kavala, is shaped by the geometry of its elongated plot, its relationship with the natural surroundings, and views towards the region’s mountainous horizon. The distinctive pitch of the mono-pitched roof is a defining feature of the composition, establishing a contemporary architectural identity.

The residence extends across three levels. The basement accommodates ancillary spaces and parking, while the ground floor houses the main living areas and connects directly to the garden. A covered threshold marks the main entrance, providing a transition between outside and inside. A dark aluminium pergola unifies the main façade and connects the outdoor seating area with the interior.

The ground-floor façade is clad in local Kavala slate in warm, earthy shades, giving the building’s base a sense of solidity and character. Large sliding doors with anthracite aluminium frames strengthen the connection between the living room and the outdoor space. On the upper floor, the façade adopts a more restrained architectural language, with white surfaces, projecting balconies, and dark perimeter frames creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow throughout the day.

Inside, the living room, dining area, and kitchen form a continuous, flowing space, with an emphasis on visual continuity and functionality. A bespoke partition of vertical oak slats subtly separates the dining and living areas while preserving the connection between them. The fireplace and timber cladding create a warm focal point.

Energy performance is integral to the design. Photovoltaic panels and solar water heaters are incorporated into the mono-pitched roof, whose angle has been selected to make effective use of solar energy. The result brings together contemporary architecture, local materials, functionality, and energy efficiency, creating a home with a clear identity, warmth, and a balanced relationship with its surroundings.
